Using aastex63.cls, is there a way to specify multiple \altaffiliation entries for a single author so that they are displayed properly when the document is compiled?

When I create multiple \altaffiliation entries for an author, they show up in the footnotes, but only one superscript symbol (corresponding to the first \altaffiliation entry) is added for the author.

For example:

\author[0000-0000-0000-0000]{author}
\altaffiliation{affil1}
\affiliation{affil2}
\altaffiliation{affil3}
\affiliation{affil4}
\affiliation{affil5}

Hi Aaron,

It does seem to me messed up when I try it locally. I don't think we anticipated having so many affiliations and alternative affilations. May I ask what exactly you want to do with the \altaffilation commands? Is there a reason why you do not use 5 \affiliation instead? Understanding what you want to see will help us when debugging in the next round.

Hi Greg,

Thanks so much for looking into this!

The author would like to have two secondary affiliations. These typically appear as footnotes, not as primary affiliations. We'd like to have the corresponding footnote symbols to show up next to their name in the author list.

Are there any hotfixes that can achieve this in the mean time?

Maybe. Can you email me directly [email protected] so we can work something out. I have some ideas but I rather do this directly before posting a final solution here.
