windows 11 support?? #20
Comments
This may not be possible, Windows 11 removes tablet mode, which is how this application knows to stop rendering if the device is removed from tablet mode, or docked at a PC (for mobiles). Unfortunately, without that, the ability to detect the tablet/mobile state has been gimped heavily. It's not something that developers may be able to get around easily. I just tried it on my own copy, and the status bar and task bar render for a moment and then disappear due to Tablet Mode not being enabled (and being unable to be enabled) |
What a waste of work :( Microsoft made this project! I hope they bring back tablet mode next year |
One option would be to simply remove the check all together, but then the MobileShell elements will show even on Desktop. I've been using the fork from gus33000: https://github.com/gus33000/MobileShell which has an exit button built in on the left side of the screen, a simple edit to that fork to remove the conditional that decides if the UI should be drawn should be the only thing left, as you'd be able to go back to the normal interface with the button. However it completely terminates MobileShell, meaning you have to start it back up from the start menu should you want it back. |
Yes please merge that project and update this

I thought the latest version has supported the Windows 11. The version number is 0.1.2504. |
Well, if developer (you my and our dear creator) makes another version of this project called for example "FullShell" that will be the main job to replace the whole Desktop UI, explorer.exe and etc... that exist in every Windows OS (including this one) to get Windows Phone UI permanently and to only way to be able to bring back default UI is to uninstall the FullShell can help people like me and others who running the full Windows 11 ARM on mobile phones to bring back old good Windows Phone UI (taskbar, desktop Metro UI home, status bar and etc...) That would be so nice and powerful thing that we will be able to call the person who create it as our savior for Windows Phones after the long years of their EOL it's a raisen thanks to this project that exist. Thank you so much in advance for participating in this! Sources: #23 |
I think the dev should, try to bring WINDOWS PHONE UI to android in the
form of a launcher that would be much better

Well, if we try to request more, we can lose everything we currently have so lets see what dev will say about our ideas. |
Hi,
|
Yeah its cool, but not quite as amazing as windows phone was, i think its
very much doable...if some devs give time and work on building an Android
based launcher that can take over android shee, maybe rom as well... Check
iconify, and pixelfy apps for Android magisk rooted Mobiles....
Many people have tried making windows phone like launches but they failed
to actually manipulate or actually go deep and make the best thing that is
possible. So I believe if this one has that much energy and power and
expertise you can survive and we all should support him and if he needs
help we are spoken as well

Hi,
2 dev questions/answers:
1. Which device do you mean? Surface Duo 1/2? If yes, then MS already
created MS Launcher + YourPhone app for PC integration.
2. If no (some mythic Android device without ability to install MS
Launcher), then how "custom shell" must/could be look?

That's actually possible so I'm sure that even other dev (who is not so good like this dev and who is not busy like this dev) will be able to do that job perfectly. But about the Windows Phone UI that will be supported completely on Windows 11, Windows 12 and etc... will be so awesome and that can't be done and it will never be done by any other dev except this dev because this dev is the only dev who wanted to build something useful for Windows OS like this so this dev only knows very well how to bring back Windows Phone back to life via this method. Imagine powerful rooted android phone or an old but hardware upgraded Windows Phone that runs original Desktop version of Windows that is supported and gets system updates (it's not EOL) + with wonderful good Windows Phone UI in the whole OS (replaced desktop UI due to screen sizes and etc... to look better on those devices that runs this OS). That is going to announce the whole media - and everyone will know that Windows Phone are bring back thanks to this dev so this dev can also get rich with that popularity so let's give our dev enough space and time for that. Other Windows project anyone can build who knows at least basic dev stuff about Android apps, root, themes and etc... |
We're getting off topic, Android is far beyond the scope of this project. Check out Launcher10 if you want something like this on Android. Unfortunately, due to the start menu being completely different (and MobileShell is a wrapper around the full screen Windows 10 start menu), this project is not compatible as it is. I won't hold anything against gus33000 or ADeltaX for discontinuing this project given Windows 10 is running out of support soon, and it would be incredibly difficult to reimplement the Windows 10 start menu into the project itself. It's possible that Start10 forcing the old Start Menu would work as a workaround, but I have not attempted that. MobileShell was fun to mess with while it lasted, but I don't see a way to continue the project with the current state of the Windows 11 UI. (and I mean, turn on Shy Taskbar and you get a pretty nice mobile view anyway) I also wanted to add that your line about "This dev is the only one who can do this" puts undue pressure on indie developers such as ADeltaX, these applications are made free of charge and the developers are not paid for these applications (with the exceptions of donations), and many of us do this in our free time, it is NOT a full-time job. This view is harmful to the open source community as well, as there could be other developers (such as myself who had contributed a couple times to this project) who have forked the project and/or contributed to it. Please try to avoid that, it can come across as demanding and there's no inclination for developers to give in to demands when they aren't actually attempting to make it a commercial product. |
I heard that using flutter you can target, WINDOWS as well as android, So
if the dev somehow manages to do some porting etc, maybe, he could do what
know one else wants to do... maybe.... but I loved this project from my
soul!!! really I wish msft had given windows phone another chance with
metro like UI

Hi. Are you the friend of ADeltaX developer? I noticed that ADeltaX totally unavalaible and not responded to my dev question about DynamicShell (DS). :( |
I am not, simply a random who enjoyed the project enough to contribute. You can see the entire project as it appears to have last been here anyway, just look in the commit history. I must reiterate though that mobile shell doesn't actually implement a full shell environment, just a top bar and an overlay over the Taskbar. |
I like this fork and it could work very well on Lumia devices with Windows 11 installed but due to the nature of the device screen size itself and UI that should always be active, is there any way where can we find and delete exit button from that MobileShell so that user will not be able to exist from MobileShell without removing MobileShell completelly so that even after reboot or using the phone, the user will not be able to exist from this MobileShell if MobileShell is still installed (not terminated/stopped) |
When I re-read all those comments from the beginning, I think that the answer is clearly no for this suggestion and it will never be added in the future. Maybe I should close this issue as non-fixable due to this case. But if I just incorrectly understood all those reactions, this case should stay opened just in case if the dev ever wants to reactivate the project and maybe at least think about the implementation I suggested a long time ago Thanks in advance for your understanding! |
