I'm interested of running multiple instances of minecraft on my server but I can't seem to find any scripts allowing it that are even half as robust as yours.
If it's not currently possible(it appears not to be, could it be implemented at some point in the future?

Just do what I do and create an init folder inside of each of your server instances and install the script for each server renaming the init.d script stuff for each so minecraft-server1 and minecraft-server2. It may not be the best option but its what I use and it works fine. Of course modify your config as required.
