What is StatesPresent / StatesAbsent in Lexer?

Currently, in markdown lexer, italic match between Style italic on and Style italic off with their own regular expression.
But I want to use more simple, like

DisplayName = 'Style italic one line'
Expression = '\*\s?([^\n]+)\*'

these 4 numbers. you painted with red line. they are feature of lexer. if not 0, numbers are calculated. this is descrinbed in
readme/tutorials/TutorialLexer4.odt
in Github.
