Maybe I'm missing something but has anyone got the "Start" Menu button to look like on the screenshot on a MATE desktop?

As far as I understand it should use the "start-here.svg" icon in the scalable/apps folder but for me it stays on the default GNOME foot icon.

I'm trying this on an Ubuntu 20.04 system.

the screenshot is from cinnamon and I haven't tried to adjust MATE to look like Windows XP.

I found this link that may provide a solution: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1183025/change-icon-on-mate-main-menu
I'd like to provide more details but am unable to work on my projects for a while.

I was not able to get the default MATE "brisk menu" to work following the solution in the link
the only way I got it to somehow look like Windows XP was to remove the brisk menu and instead add the "Advanced MATE menu" which already has the correct icon set and the possibility to add custom text, in this case "Start"

I didn't like the general look though because the icon was not green and it didn't have the recognizable arch in it, the right side of the panel didn't look "right" as well as it didn't have the difference of the two blue shades with the marker in between

in the end i switched to the Cinnamon desktop as it has a much cleaner look regarding this theme

On older versions of Mate you could remove the word "Menu" and change the picture to one of a full Start button, ie with both logo and text. Now you can't. If you leave the button text blank whatever icon you use will try to fit in just the small square at the left.
