Mmmm, not sure what you mean by this. A correct Right should only have a link back to another Right or Copyright (via allowedBy, or its replacement source). Were you able to provide a rightsOf property to the Right (that shouldn't be happening)?
derive_right() should be able to accept both Copyrights and Rights to derive from.
