Changing the default ROM directory on Raspberry Pi?

Thanks so much for all you have done for the Linux/Pi emulation community!

Is it possible for the user to change the default ROM/game.daphne directory?

I am having trouble running johnnyrock from the /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade folder on my Raspberry Pi. If placed in the expected /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/daphne folder, then johnnyrock.daphne runs correctly. However, moving it to the arcade folder causes a black screen to show up with a voice shouting, "Save me!" and then a crash. I tried introducing an empty "roms" subfolder within the arcade folder and even creating a symbolic link to the corresponding "roms" subfolder where johnnyrock.daphne is expected to be, but neither worked.

The Daphne emulator allows me to place a game.daphne in the arcade folder and just have the game.zip placed in the /home/.../daphne/roms folder.

Heya,

Firstly can you provide the full output of cat /dev/shm/runcommand.log (after ssh'ing into the Pi), just after the you hear the "save me!" warning. This should show what singe is having difficulty with.

Also can you provide the output of ls -al /opt/retropie/emulators/hypseus/

Then a brief explanation of how/where/what you changed the $PATH information for the runcommand to the new directory.

The cd-rom-globals.singe file does exist in the johnnyrock.daphne directory, and the game does run fine if I put the johnnyrock.daphne directory in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/daphne. That /roms/daphne path does contain its own roms sub-folder.

My question is about how to change the $PATH information. I didn't make changes to any of that. I thought that the paths might be relative to where you place your game.daphne folder, but I seem to be wrong about that and don't know how to adjust the paths to point to that arcade folder 😅

Ahhhh, I came up with a solution that doesn't involve changing any configuration of the emulator. I added the johnnyrock.daphne folder to /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/daphne/, where it works, created a symbolic link in the arcade folder, and hid the Daphne system in my frontend.

Ok sure, your systems is still expecting all the ROM information, in respect to -homedir, in your last ls -al here:

You could just change these symlinks to point to the new location in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade. That would avoid the other secondary symlinking you are doing. But will achieve the same end.

One other quick question: is it possible to map the middle and right mouse buttons in the .ini?

You cannot assign mouse buttons in Daphne config .ini

However:

• You can change the mapping of the SWITCH_BUTTON the mouse button is associated with in the game .singe files

• Or re-assign it here in source if you desire (note: dependant on mouse mode):

But the latter will require a recompile of the binary.
