Is there a way to achieve cross-region routing without a custom filter ?

Hi,
First of all great example on how to extend envoy using http filter extension.
I am curious if the same (cross-region routing support) can be achieved without writing a custom filter like the one you have here.

Would greatly appreciate any thoughts/pointers.
