Security related to "full, unrestricted access to your computer"

I'd love to use this extension but the requirement of "full, unrestricted access to your computer" is a major security issue. Can anyone on the development team comment on why this is required, if there are alternatives that are more secure (sandboxing?), and whether or not there are plans to adapt this extension so that it does not require unrestricted access to users' computers?
