Spell checking stops working when you go into the keyboard settings

If you go into the keyboard settings and exit, the spell checking stops working. It only starts working when you re-enable the app you are typing in. This happens in Gboard as well, so it's not HeliBoard's fault. I just want to know if HeliBoard can force its own spell checker module to continue spell checking?

When you "exit" do you mean you switch to another app, or do you remove HeliBoard from recents? In the latter case the app is closed, with all its components. I guess the spell checker takes a while to start (for my old test phone this takes really long).

Remove HeliBoard from recents. If I leave the keyboard settings open and go back to the app I'm typing in, everything is fine, spell checking still works.

Yep, in my case it's the same, I have to wait even several hours. I discovered that closing the app I'm typing in, for example Discord, and reopening it resumes spell checking. Weird ¯_(ツ)_/¯
