Questions about translation

I have two little questions

1. Will the description on F-Droid be able to be translated? Some apps have descriptions translated into other languages.
2. Can this keyboard description be translated? I couldn't find this description in the strings file and translating through Weblate didn't have it either.

I'll have a look at how this works. I'm not really experienced with translation tools, but I guess should be possible to add the fastlane/metadata folder to Weblate.

My decision was that the tagline should not be translated as the name. Taglines are usually selected from carefully selected words in the original language, and that seriousness may not be preserved in translation.

This is entirely my personal opinion. But if the common practice for an app is to translate the tagline, then it should be done.

I see your reasoning, and tend to more agree than disagree (but don't have a strong opinion on whether it should be translatable).

Thanks for the answers. In my opinion, translation of this description should be possible. If the translator thinks that the translation into his language will not sound good, then he will not translate this description.

A few things could be added to the description on F-Droid:

1. The toolbar and a mention of some of its features
2. Ability to customize the source/order of pop-up keys
3. Dictionary in the keyboard
4. Gestures (swiping up on a suggestion opens more suggestions, swiping up on the spacebar changes the language, etc.)

I think it's worth mentioning, especially since the description is quite short. A bit off topic, but I didn't want to open a new discussion just to write these few ideas.

Maybe it would be good to have the features part from the readme directly copied into the full_description.txt?
As far as I know, HTML can be used both in GitHub readme and F-Droid descriptions.

Good idea, some things can be removed, some shortened, something added and it will be great.

I switched the list of features to html and copied it to the fastlane metadata full description.
If you have any improvements / updates on that it's very welcome.

For "customize keyboard" I would add "layouts, pop-up keys and symbols".

Under "customize keyboard themes" I would add something like "choose one of the beautiful themes or create your own".

I think it's also worth writing something about the toolbar and dictionary in the keyboard, which are very useful, in my opinion.

Could you add these and other names for translation on Weblate? I mean symbols (Arabic), numbers, numpad, numpad (horizontal), phone and phone symbols.

I noticed a strange little bug. Only the first line of the name for this option is displayed. Due to this, the entire translation cannot be seen. Adding \n does not work in this case.

I checked the French language and only the first line of the translation is also displayed there. It's probably the same with other translations.

Btw, when will you add a description for F-Droid to Weblate? I know you have more important things to do, but a translated description might encourage more people to try the keyboard.

I want to add it, but I'm really not good with Weblate and don't know where to add the folder. I remember it should be added as a separate component, but had some issues when I tried to do it a while ago (sorry for lack of details).

I understand. I checked how it looks in Feeder. In fastlane/metadata/android there are created folders for languages. In them are short_description and full_description files. This is all added as a separate component. HeliBoard only has a folder for English, so maybe that's the problem. I don't know Weblate either, so I'm just guessing 🤷‍♂️
