Custom layouts: adding a text string which includes space(s)

I created my own keyboard layout and included the tag <br/>, which I need to use quite often, as a secondary key, among others.

I actually wanted to add it with its proper spacing (<br />), but adding a space translates into adding another key, a.k.a. keys can't have spaces. Or can they?

I mean: is there a way (an escape character or something) that enables a string containing a space to be the content of a single key?

I also tried with a non breaking space, but didn't work.

You can use a json layout, then you should be able to add spaces.

In HeliBoard there is not much, only https://github.com/Helium314/HeliBoard/blob/main/layouts.md#json-format
Looks like the linked (short) layout section has been removed from FlorisBoard.

Your best chance is probably looking at existing layouts in HeliBoard and FlorisBoard.
I guess you'll want a key with multiple popups like

How can the third line in your example only have three " ? Shouldn't they be open and closed? 🤔 I really want to learn this syntax
