After placing the sugar canes, it breaks and when we break one of the blocks we have placed one after the other, the others are constantly breaking apart.

I don't feel this issue is urgent, because you can use twisting / weeping vines for the same behavior.
This would probably need to have a fix that is buggy because it would need to prevent sugarcane from being updated in all instances. If someone is interested they can make a PR and I will review it, but for now I am marking it as not being worked on.
