Search Query Persists After Exiting Messaging

I open Hylo messaging in Chrome (Mac), search for messages with "Tiffany Hart" (no past messaging shows up) and then exit messaging. When I click messaging icon to reopen, it shows "nothing to see here" message initially. My inbox appears empty.
Only after reopening messaging fully is the previous search of Tiffani Hart is visible (Search query remains active when reopening messaging).

IMO, the search query should reset when exiting messaging and upon reopening, full inbox should be visible. How it currently is working creates confusion as users momentarily think their inbox is empty when reopening messaging.
