Did everything according to doc (> jekyll letsencrypt) and got following error

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
waiting 120 seconds before we start checking for challenge..
jekyll 3.8.5 | Error:  SSL_connect returned=1 errno=0 state=error: certificate verify failed (unspecified certificate verification error)

Are you trying to use https in the challenge URL? It's easier to keep the challenge request plain old http...
