WHAT is ENYO?

Enyo is an object-oriented JavaScript application framework emphasizing modularity and encapsulation

Also works in desktop browsers including Firefox, Chrome/Safari, and Internet Explorer

Highly customizable and extensible

Built to scale and open source under the Apache License, Version 2.0.

Enyo 2.0 core is about 17KB gzipped, and built for fast application rendering and performance

What are some central concepts with Enyo

 Kinds - Enyo's name for classes/types of components to instantiate- They are just javascript objects

 Components - A component controls the content it owns and sends messages to its owner(another component) in the form of events.

Properties- Variable placed in published block

Events- Captures DOM, DOM-like, and Custom events and work cross-platform, so client code need not worry about touch vs mouse interfaces.

 Controls - A component that controls a DOM node (i.e., an element in the user interface). And are generally visible and the user often interacts with them directly.

Simple application

//application.html
< body >
< script >
var control = new enyo.Control({
name: "helloworld",
tag: 'p',
content: 'Hello, World!',
style: 'color: blue'
});
control.renderInto(document.body);
< /script >
< /body >

Question?

 So do I just throw all my code in between the script tag within the body tag in my HTML file?

You can but a common pattern for Enyo applications is to create an application file place your code in there and then instantiate the Control within your HTML file to render that application into document.body

 Lets take a look on the next slide

Questions?

Can I use Enyo to build packaged applications for iOS? Android? Chrome?

Yes. In the case of iOS, Android and other mobile platforms, you’ll need to wrap your Enyo application in a native “shell.” The easiest way to do that is to use PhoneGap, which also gives your application access to various native capabilities on each platform.
