KWIVER v1.1.1 Release Notes
===========================
This is a patch release of KWIVER that provides bug fixes and documentation
improvements over the previous v1.1.0 release.
Updates since v1.1.0
--------------------
Vital
* The camera model support in KWIVER has been refactored to support multiple
type of camera models. There is now a base camera class, simply named camera
that provides the general camera API. The original camera model has been
renamed camera_perspective.
* Using the new base camera API, a camera model named camera_rpc has been
added to support rational polynomial cameras (RPC).
Testing
* The Travis CI framework was updated to download a pre-built Fletch instead
of building Fletch from source. This change helps to avoid the Travis CI
time out. It also allows us to build all of Fletch and all of KWIVER
without hitting the time limit, so Sprokit, Python, and track oracle have
now been enabled in Travis CI testing.
* Removed duplicate testing headers from kwiver/vital/tests that were unused.
The copies in kwiver/tests/ are still used.
Fixes since v1.1.0
------------------
Arrows - Core
* The triangulate landmarks algorithm was supposed to catch and discard
invalid triangulated points. It was failing to catch points that contained
NaN or infinity value. This has been corrected.
Arrows - VXL
* The vidl_ffmpeg_video_input algorithm was not catching exceptions caused by
corrupt metadata. This typically led programs like dump_klv to crash. The
exception is now caught in the video_input and logged as a warning so that
the rest of the data can be read.
Arrows - OpenCV
* Updated the OpenCV extract_descriptors algorithm to return potentially
modified features by reference when computing descriptors. This is needed
because some descriptors in OpenCV, notably ORB, do this reordering and
this resulted in a bug in which features and descriptor were out of sync
when using ORB.
Vital
* The simple_camera_perspective::clone_look_at now has the same parameter
default as the base method, allowing it to be called with one parameter
from an instance whose static type is simple_camera_perspective.
* rotation::quaternion no longer returns the quaternion by reference. This
fixes a potential dangling reference problem if this method is called on a
temporary object. (In particular, this was causing several VXL arrow tests
to fail.)
* The conversion from 0601 KLV to vital metadata was missing a case for
"Outside Air Temperature". When this field was encountered an exception was
thrown. The correct conversion has been added.
* Modified the extract_descriptors API to allow algorithms to also modify the
input feature set and return updated features by reference. This is needed
because some descriptor extractors in OpenCV modify features. This was
causing a bug in which features and descriptor were out of sync.
Sprokit
* Previously the Python path used in Sprokit Python tests was incorrect due to
the missing Python version subdirectory (e.g. 'python2.7/') in the directory
structure. This has now been corrected, meaning the tests should pass
without needing to explicitly set the PYTHONPATH environment variable first.
Testing
* The sprokit non-blocking pipeline test was failing intermittently and
taking a long time to run. Adjustments to the process timing using short
sleep calls make this test more reliable and run faster.
Tools
* Fixed the name of the video_reader in the dump_klv tool.
CMake
* The kwiver_configure_file CMake macro was ignoring all values except the
first for list arguments like the KWIVER_INCLUDE_DIRS and
KWIVER_LIBRARY_DIRS. This would prevent consumer projects from using some of
the include/library paths. Changes to the argument parsing in the macro have
fixed this issue.
