if not impossible, to find since the SPSU-KSU merger.

SPSU Sans was derived from a typeface defined in 1931 by the German
standards body DIN in the standard sheet DIN 1451-Schriften (typefaces).
The font was specifically designed for legibility and intended for use
on technical drawings and documentation.
According to the SPSU style guide:
It was selected for its clean, angular lines, uniform proportions and “engineering” like qualities.
Like the original DIN spec, SPSU Sans was available in both regular and condensed
versions for use when space was limited, for example notes on a drawing. It was also
available in a wide selection of weights.

This is the background used on the website in 2013, and the one I remember most fondly.

This is the background used on the new and improved website in 2014. It tiles well
and makes a great desktop background!
