Student Guide

Introduction to Moodle

What is Moodle?

Moodle is a learning management system (LMS) that allows you to access course materials, participate in discussions, submit assignments, and communicate with your instructors and peers in an online environment.

01. How to Access Moodle

  • Open your web browser.
  • Enter the URL provided by your institution for Moodle.
  • Log in using your username and password.

02. Getting Started

  • Logging In
  • Go to the Moodle login page.
  • Enter your username and password.
  • Click the "Log In" button.

03. Dashboard Overview

Once logged in, you will see your dashboard displaying enrolled courses, upcoming deadlines, and recent activities.

04. Navigating Courses

Click on a Mycourse to access the course. Explore different sections, such as "Announcements," "Resources," and "Activities."

05. Submit the Assignment

How does it work? Students click the assignment link and click “Add submission” (1) Depending on the assignment settings, they either have a text box into which to type their work or an upload area to submit their file (2) They may be able to return to their work and redraft it, or they might have to click a submit button to send in a final version which cannot be changed.

06. Quiz Submission

Quiz view:
  • The quiz will open in a fullscreen popup window.
  • At the top of the quiz window, you will see the following information:

    The quiz name and description The number of questions in the quiz. The time limit for the quiz, if any.The number of attempts you have remaining.Below the quiz information,

  • when clicking "attemp quiz" Button [1]. you will see the first question in the quiz .
  • To answer a question, select the answer choice that you think is correct.
  • To move to the next question, click on the Next button [2].
  • To review a previous question, click on the Previous button.
  • To flag a question, click on the Flag button. This will mark the question for your review and alert your teacher to a possible query. To complete the quiz:
  • Once you have answered all of the questions in the quiz, click on the Finish attempt button [3].
  • You will be asked to review your answers and then click on the Submit all and finish button to submit your quiz.

07. Quiz results:

* After you have submitted your quiz, you will see your quiz results. * Your results will show you your score for the quiz, as well as the correct answers to each question [4].

08. feedback activity and submit feedback.

  • Students will see the feedback activity on the course page.

  • They can click on the feedback activity to open it.

  • They can read the questions and enter their answers.

  • They can submit their feedback when they are finished.

09. Survey Submission

Students can easily access the Survey by clicking on the Survey icon within their course [1].

Once inside, students can breeze through the survey questions by simply selecting the corresponding radio button next to each statement [2]. After finishing the survey [3,4], students can get a sense of how their responses stack up against the average responses of their classmates, giving them a valuable peek into their understanding of the course material [5].

10. Personalization and Preferences

* Customizing Your Profile * Click on your profile picture or name.

  • Update your profile information, including a profile picture.
  • Setting Preferences for Notifications
  • Access the "Notification Preferences" or "Settings" section.
  • Choose your preferred notification settings for emails, forum posts, etc.

11. Join in VCR Class Room

* Students will now see the URL activity (VCR) within the course page.

  • They can click on the link or resource to access the VCR Classroom. image

12. Using Safe Exam Browser

  1. Visit the download page at https://safeexambrowser.org/download_en.html and acquire the most recent version of SEB. This software is compatible with Windows PC, Mac, and iOS. Keep in mind that SEB is not supported on Android phones or tablets, preventing the ability to take online tests on these devices.

  1. Disable popup blockers in the browser you typically use to access Moodle. Follow the links below for instructions on the most commonly used browsers:
  1. Go to the quiz in your course and click on it to start.
  2. Click the 'Launch Safe Exam Browser' button - ignore the other button labelled 'Download Configuration'

  1. A popup window will appear: In the popup window choose "Open Safe Exam browser". If you don’t see the popup window, go back to Step 2 to make sure you have enabled popups in the browser you are using.
  2. The Safe Exam Browser will launch and you will be prompted to enter your Moodle username and password to continue.
  3. After you enter the username and password you will see the "Attempt Quiz Now" button - click this to start the quiz.
  4. You won't be able to open any other windows or to switch to other applications.
  5. When you are done, click the Submit All button for the quiz and then close the Safe Exam browser using the 'Terminate Session' button at the bottom-right of the screen. You will be returned to Moodle in your usual browser.

13. Submit the Forum

Here are the steps for a student to reply to a forum in Moodle:

  1. Access the Forum:

    • Log in to Moodle and open the course where the forum is located.
    • Locate the forum activity on the course page and click on its title to open it.
  2. View Discussion Topics:

    • Inside the forum, you’ll see a list of discussion topics.
    • Click on the topic you want to reply to.
  3. Reply to a Post:

    • Once inside the topic, scroll to find the post you want to respond to.
    • Click Reply below the post.
  4. Write and Submit Your Reply:

    • A text box will appear where you can type your response.
    • Format your text, add any attachments if allowed, and then click Post to forum to submit your reply.
  5. Confirm Submission:

    • After posting, Moodle may show a confirmation message. Once confirmed, your reply will appear under the original post in the discussion thread.
