Checks

  • I provided nvram backup file
  • I provided sticker photo

Console model

SCPH-70002

Describe the issue

When trying to read PS2 backups I get "The disc could not be read"
When trying to read from PS1 backups it boots but I get a black screen.

Using FMCB 1.966. Genuine PS1 and PS2 games work perfectly. Not using "force"

Cheers!

Are you using v3 version?

Are you using v3 version?

I just downloaded the latest release. Should I be using a particular build?

Ah ok I see I was using the latest release, 2.0 not the pre release. I restored nvm backup and tried 3.0rc4 but it doesnt seem to patch at all?

Doing the following:

Press x > install exploit > remove cord
X > X > change region > CEX (retail) > oceania multi 7 > keep current patch > remove cord.

Checking Version on dashboard still displays scph-70002.

nvm_6.02_2134411.zip
Heres the nvm backup taken by rc4. Hashes on both files appear to the be the same.

Yes, its normal for 3.0 mechapwn.

One more moment: its not possible to change region resteictions for 70k models, so you are sticked with PAL titles so far. For running NTSC titles you need to burn swapdisks from PAL region (both: ps2 and ps1).

Tested with some PAL games, no luck.
PAL ps1 backup was read as an audio CD.
PAL ps2 game gave the "Please insert a valid ps2 game"

I dont have to patch these before burning or anything do I? These are just straight PAL backups, originals play fine on the console unpatched.

This definetly looks like Force Unlock is applied. Also it is possible that your console has a modchip. Could you try to reinsyal mechapwn and apply restore factory defaults option?

Have reinstalled exploit same as above except selected restore factory defaults option. Getting the exact same behaviour as I was before. I have never opened this ps2 but theres no indication that its modchipped. Booting into mechapwn via fmcb. Any other ideas? Artefact from newer build perhaps?

No ideas, looks like it is acting as force unlock is installed, that in most cases is indication that modchip is installed. It is also possible that there is something wrong with the laser, or bad burned media quiality...
