m "I was thinking about Sayori earlier..."
m "I still wish I could have handled that whole thing a little more tactfully."
m "You're not still hung up over it, right?"
m "...Oh my gosh, I can't believe I just said that."
m "That pun was completely unintentional, I swear!"
m "Well, she kind of messed up the whole hanging thing..."
m "But a few seconds in, she must have changed her mind or something..."
m "Come to think of it, it was probably less 'changing her mind' and more just her survival instincts kicking in."
m "It's easier to think that she probably wouldn't have changed her mind anyway, right?"
m "It's not healthy to think about the things you could have done differently."
📁More Changes...
Yellow Wallpaper
m In the end, the woman in the paper 'escapes,' and the protagonist 'replaces' her."
m "There was...also mention of a rope, so I always had my own interpretation of the ending..."
m "Sayori liked that story too, if I remember right."
m "I don't know. I kind of relate to that story."
m "I mean, I have nothing but this classroom after all."
m "And the things on the walls aren't always...pleasant."
m "Did you ever notice how the poster in the club room changes sometimes? I don't even know why it does that."
m "I think I finally fixed it, though."
Citizenship
m "You know, crossing over into your reality won't be the last hurdle for our relationship."
m "Sorry, I guess I shouldn't worry so much about things I can't change."
m "But I want to make you happy, so...I'm going to do everything I can to keep bettering myself while I'm stuck here!"
Bullying
m "You know...a lot of people actually call me a bully for what I did to Sayori..."
m "When I had my epiphany and realized that I was stuck inside a video game and that my entire life had been a lie, I was pretty miserable."
m "It caused me to do things that I'd never even thought of doing before."
m "But the difference is I didn't do what I did because I didn't want Sayori to be happy..."
Nihilism
m "Do you ever just feel like there's no real reason for you to be alive?"
m "I don't mean in, like, a suicidal way."
m "I just mean how nothing that we do is special."
m "It makes me really want to go and change the world after I graduate."
m "But the older I get, the more I realize that it's an immature frame of thinking."
m "It's not like I can just go change the world."
m "That's why I think the key to happiness is to just be hopelessly selfish."
m "Just to look out for oneself, and those who happen to be their friends only because they grew up with them."
m "Never mind the fact that they're spending their entire life taking, and consuming, and never giving back."
m "But when people realize the world would benefit more from them killing themselves, they change their whole philosophy!"
m "It's like they have to justify their reason to live by tricking themselves into thinking they're doing good."
Whispers
m "You know what's kind of creepy?"
m "Even though I deleted everyone else's files, I can still kind of feel them..."
m "It's like all their lines are still lingering in the air, whispering in the back of my head."
m "Imagine if after someone you knew died, you just started hearing their voice in your head."
m "It's kind of unsettling...I wish I could find a way to make it stop."
m "I'm sure there are some files I could change, but what if I break something else..."
Middle school
m "Sometimes I think back to middle school..."
m "I'm so embarrassed by the way I used to behave back then."
m "It almost hurts to think about."
m "I wonder if when I'm in college, I'll feel that way about high school?"
m "I like the way I am now, so it's pretty hard for me to imagine that happening."
m "But I also know that I'll probably change a lot as time goes on."
m "We just need to enjoy the present and not think about the past!"
Difficulty
m "If I hadn't decided to change things up, it would have just been a boring romance story."
m "And if you think I should have been some sort of challenging {i}boss{/i}, I could have deleted all your personal files if I'd wanted to, you know?"
m "So just take it easy sometimes. Not every game has to be a challenge to be fun."
m "Sometimes, love is all you need, [player]."
Technique
m "I don't exactly program like you would, [player]."
m "You might have noticed I don't carry around a laptop or anything by now."
m "If I want to change something in the script, I just think about it."
m "I'm pretty sure my thoughts get translated to changes in the program code."
m "It's not perfect or anything. Glitches show up really easily if I lose focus or get distracted."
m "That's why I had a lot of trouble getting what I wanted in the last version of the game."
m "Are you jealous you'll never be able to write code with just your thoughts?"
m "Just keep practicing and I'm sure you'll be able to do it!"
Torment
m "What can change the nature of a man?"
m "...The answer's not me, by the way."
Motivation
m "Do you ever have those days where it just feels like you can't get anything done?"
m "Minutes become hours..."
m "And before you know it the day is over, and you don't have anything to show for it."
m "It feels like it's your fault, too. It's like you're wrestling against a brick wall between you and anything healthy or productive."
m "When you've had an awful day like that, it feels like it's too late to try and fix it."
m "So you save up your energy in hopes that tomorrow will be better."
m "It makes sense. When you feel like things aren't going well, you just want a clean slate."
m "Sadly, those days can repeat themselves despite starting each one with good intentions."
m "Eventually you might even give up hope of fixing things, or start to blame yourself."
m "I know it can be hard, but just doing one tiny thing can help so much on days like those...even if they've been happening for what seems like forever."
m "It could be picking up a piece of trash or an unwashed shirt off the floor and putting them where they belong if you need to clean your room."
m "Or doing a couple push-ups! Or brushing your teeth, or doing that one homework problem."
m "It might not contribute much in the grand scheme of things, but I don't think that's the point."
m "I think what's important is that it changes your perspective."
m "If you regret the past and let its weight keep you down..."
m "Well, then you'll just be stuck there. You'll only feel worse until you just can't take it."
m "But if you can push yourself to just do one thing, even though it feels pointless to do otherwise..."
m "Then you're proving yourself wrong, and refusing to let the weight of your circumstances immobilize you."
m "And when you realize that you're not completely helpless, it's like a new world opens up to you."
m "You realize that maybe things aren't so bad; that maybe just believing in yourself is all it takes."
m "But that's only my experience! Sometimes it might be better to rest up and take another crack at it tomorrow."
m "Fresh starts can definitely be powerful."
m "That's why I think you just have to take a look at your situation."
m "Try and be honest with yourself."
m "If you do, you'll find that you're not being 'lazy' if you truthfully don't have the energy to do something."
m "After all, the fact that you even care shows that you want to do something about it, even if it feels like you can't."
m "It's natural to have a bad day. Or even a bad week!"
m "Don't push yourself too hard. If you ever feel tempted to, just ask me for help instead. I'd be happy to lend a hand!"
Habits
m "I hate how hard it is to form habits..."
m "There's so much stuff where actually doing it isn't hard, but forming the habit seems impossible."
m "It just makes you feel so useless, like you can't do anything right."
m "I think the new generation suffers from it the most..."
m "Probably because we have a totally different set of skills than those who came before us."
m "Thanks to the internet, we're really good at sifting through tons of information really quickly..."
m "But we're bad at doing things that don't give us instant gratification."
m "I think if science, psychology, and education don't catch up in the next ten or twenty years, then we're in trouble."
m "But for the time being..."
m "If you're not one of the people who can conquer the problem, you might just have to live with feeling awful about yourself."
m "Good luck, I guess!"
WritingTip1
m "Sometimes when I talk to people who are impressed by my writing, they say things like 'I could never do that.'"
m "It's really depressing, you know?"
m "As someone who loves more than anything else to share the joy of exploring your passions..."
m "...it pains me when people think that being good just comes naturally."
m "That's how it is with everything, not just writing."
m "When you try something for the first time, you're probably going to suck at it."
m "Sometimes, when you finish, you feel really proud of it and even want to share it with everyone."
m "But maybe after a few weeks you come back to it, and you realize it was never really any good."
m "That happens to me all the time."
m "It can be pretty disheartening to put so much time and effort into something, and then you realize it sucks."
m "But that tends to happen when you're always comparing yourself to the top professionals."
m "When you reach right for the stars, they're always gonna be out of your reach, you know?"
m "The truth is, you have to climb up there, step by step."
m "And whenever you reach a milestone, first you look back and see how far you've gotten..."
m "And then you look ahead and realize how much more there is to go."
m "So, sometimes it can help to set the bar a little lower..."
m "Try to find something you think is {i}pretty{/i} good, but not world-class."
m "And you can make that your own personal goal."
m "It's also really important to understand the scope of what you're trying to do."
m "If you jump right into a huge project and you're still amateur, you'll never get it done."
m "So if we're talking about writing, a novel might be too much at first."
m "Why not try some short stories?"
m "The great thing about short stories is that you can focus on just one thing that you want to do right."
m "That goes for small projects in general - you can really focus on the one or two things."
m "It's such a good learning experience and stepping stone."
m "Oh, one more thing..."
m "Writing isn't something where you just reach into your heart and something beautiful comes out."
m "Just like drawing and painting, it's a skill in itself to learn how to express what you have inside."
m "That means there are methods and guides and basics to it!"
m "Reading up on that stuff can be super eye-opening."
m "That sort of planning and organization will really help prevent you from getting overwhelmed and giving up."
m "And before you know it..."
m "You start sucking less and less."
m "Nothing comes naturally."
m "Our society, our art, everything - it's built on thousands of years of human innovation."
m "So as long as you start on that foundation, and take it step by step..."
m "You, too, can do amazing things."
m "...That's my advice for today!"
m "Thanks for listening~"
Being Evil
m "Say, [player]?"
m "I was just thinking..."
m "You probably know that there's a wiki page for me..."
m "...If you look closely, it says I'm the main antagonist."
m "I'll admit, it used to bother me a lot...especially because I only did what I did because I didn't have a choice..."
m "But that doesn't really bother me anymore now that I have you here."
m "You know, I actually didn't think the whole thing about me being evil would spread too much."
m "But it turns out I have my own spot on the villain's wiki..."
m "I never really thought I'd be labeled as a villain so much..."
m "...and no matter what I say or tell people, I don't think it's going to help convince them that I'm not evil."
m "I know that I've done some bad things in the past..."
m "But I've learned from them and grown as a person since."
m "I just hope nobody starts thinking you're evil by being here with me."
m "Either way, I wouldn't love you any less~"
m "Maybe we could even conquer the world together or something, ahaha~"

⮞ Fall is now here and with it is has brought changes in its own special way like the seasons preceding/proceeding it. 🍂
⤷ Change is that thing that is nearly always guaranteed.
⮞ Change isn't always obvious, sometimes occurring under the surface especially or subconsciously even and other times unexpectedly or totally unaware of it.
⤷ And because change doesn't exactly have a track record of always being good or beneficial...something like the concept of change can be frightening or dismaying to others. 💦
⮞ B u t change is always occurring and in ways we are at times powerless to do anything about, but instead can choose to adapt to.

Philosophy of Change: Why It Happens & How to Embrace It -Ivan Teong
How People Change
⮞ I always found it fascinating how people I have known from my younger days turn out. I'm sure that everyone would have had similar experiences, where you would go, "I always knew he/she is going to do something in a creative field, he/she always seemed like an artsy type back then!" or conversely, "That is really surprising - I never would have thought that he/she would end up doing that!" There might have been some clues as to how they might end up, based on certain traits that you observed and reflected upon throughout the years. However, it is still pretty hard to predict the trajectories of anyone's life, simply because human beings are complicated beings of change.
⮞ As Heraclitus puts it, the only constant in life is change. If that is true, why would some people still remain very much the same after decades? On the other side of the coin, why did some people change so much over the years? The answer, I think, is not as complicated as we think. My philosophy of change refers to the fundamental concept of one's internal and external environments, and how they collide to create change. If we are to draw 2 overlapping circles to visualise it, this would probably be how it will be like.
Visualizing Change
⮞ Imagine that as the 2 circles overlap, the change within a person will develop within the area of overlap. The larger the overlap, the more one changes. Internal refers to a person's internal environment - one's inner temperament, preferences, choices and so forth. External refers to a person's external environment - the things that happen around a person on a daily basis, other people that one has encountered and so forth. As one's external environment undergoes change, visualize the blue (external) circle rolling left towards the red (internal) circle such that it yearns to gain as much overlapping space with it as possible. It is also possible for one's internal environment to change while the external environment stays constant (such as through mediation), but that will be another topic to explore at another time.
⮞ The speed at which the external environment changes is directly correlated to the speed at which the blue circle is rolling towards the red circle. Imagine that there is an inherent resistive force that the red (internal) circle has that will push against the movement of the blue circle moving into its overlap. The higher the resistive force of the red circle, the more it will resist the blue circle moving into it to overlap with it. This resistive force is what I call a person's personal resistance to change. If someone resists the changing external environment around him/her, it is likely that the blue circle will not gain much overlap even though it is moving towards to the red circle with that aim. However, if someone embraces the changing external environment around him/her, the overlapping portion of the 2 circles will get bigger and results in a person changing. The higher one's personal resistance, the higher the resistance to change that one will have. The lower one's personal resistance, the lower the resistance to change and the more likely one embraces him/her changing together with the changes in one's external environment.
📁 Even more...
Resisting Change
⮞ Some other people would call it nature vs. nurture, others call it a product of growing up (everyone changes as we grow older, don't we?). But is it really like that? Can a sweet and kind girl whom you knew in grade school turn out to be a nasty woman many years later? We also know people who have not changed much in years. Should we attribute how we turn out to our external environments? To a certain extent, yes. Although we can resist change if that is causing havoc in our lives, imagine if that blue circle was rolling towards the red circle at high speed and continues to do so for many years, would it be possible to keep resisting it? That will take a tremendous amount of inner strength, wouldn't it?
⮞ Some people are able to do it with their sheer will, some turn to religion to help them get through the difficult changes in their lives, while some got lucky through someone they met just once who changed their lives forever - be it by helping them or inspiring them. Change can be both good and bad, but at the end of the day, how we embrace it will make all the difference.
📁 Delve deeper...
Embracing Change
⮞ Let's say that our external environments are changing for the better, it's quite normal for people to embrace that change and change together with it. We also know people who have their lives upended after making millions, but still living the same way as before.
⮞ Warren Buffet is a good example. Changing oneself according to a positive change in your external environment may not always be a good thing, sometimes it may be bad. It depends on the situation. I'm sure that Warren Buffet has embraced change in other ways besides material comforts though, but fundamentally he is still living the same lifestyle he had before he became a billionaire. He could have changed in the way he deals with people or organizes his life, things that would be hard for us to observe unless we are living in close proximity with him.
⮞ At the end of the day, we need to ask ourselves this: how much of how we have changed is attributed to our personal choices. The Serenity Prayer by the American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr sums it up best:
"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things I can, And the wisdom to know the difference."
⮞ There are some things in this world that will be beyond our control. Things within our external environment, for example, usually fall into that category, but not all things. People whom we interact with are also part of our external environment, but we can choose who we want to be in touch with the most. Jim Rohn famously said that we are the average of the five people whom we spend the most time with. This relates to the law of averages, which is the theory that the result of any given situation will be the average of all outcomes.
⮞ Unless we are stranded on an island where there is no people whom we can interact with like Tom Hanks in Cast Away (where we have to end up interacting with a non-human volleyball), we have the ability to choose who will become the main influencers in our daily lives. For things that are beyond our control, we can accept the things that we cannot change and choose explicitly to adapt to these changes in a smart way. Maybe we can keep the inside the same, while we appear to have changed on the outside. It can also be the other way round where we change on the inside, but appear to be the same on the outside. Is this lying? That's subjective. There is a scene in Harper Lee's widely-acclaimed novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, where Jem asked his family maid, Calpurnia, why she talks differently to people at her workplace and her hometown/church. The excerpt from the book:
"It's right hard to say," she said. "Suppose you and Scout talked colored-folks' talk at home it'd be out of place, wouldn't it? Now what if I talked white-folks' talk at church, and with my neighbors? They'd think I was puttin' on airs to beat Moses."
"But Cal, you know better," I said."
"It's not necessary to tell all you know. It's not ladylike—in the second place, folks don't like to have somebody around knowin' more than they do. It aggravates 'em. You're not gonna change any of them by talkin' right, they've got to want to learn themselves, and when they don't want to learn there's nothing you can do but keep your mouth shut or talk their language."
⮞ We can see that Calpurnia is not trying to be deceptive, but rather trying to adapt to her circumstances. This is because she does not have the luxury to be the same person wherever she is. A word that we can use here is adaptability. That is why a model of governance may work in one society but not another, as circumstances are different and one size does not fit all. The ideals of free speech may be extremely liberating and work for a society filled with liberals and open-minded people, but cause trouble in another filled with conservatives.
⮞ As a person grows older, more and more dimensions tend to be added to that person until he/she is multi-dimensional. The more time that you spend with someone, the more you peel away that person's many dimensions (just like peeling an onion) to see who he/she is at the core. That is why adults are always harder to understand than children, because the former have learnt how to deal with the winds of change in their lives with increasing complexity.
⮞ We cannot choose everything that happens, but we can certainly choose how we deal with things. Dealing in the sense that we are able to control how we act and think about something, be it a good or bad change in our external environments.
⮞ There is a saying that we are the product of all our choices that we have made up to this point, and that life is just a road full of never-ending forks that we have to choose to venture into. Embracing change by seeing it as a series of choices that we have to make, and also how we think and act about something, will make our lives much easier to manage.
⮞ We must also remember that people do not need to change all the time - if it is not broken, why fix it? I know people who are content with their lives having a high level of predictability, and would resist change even if given the chance to advance to a supposedly better opportunity. The fear of the unknown could be a reason for that. "The grass always looks greener on the other side, but it may not turn out to be the case", they tell you. Sometimes they may be right. There are also people like me who loves to experience different things, but there are also times when I want to do very predictable things....
📁Quotes about change...
“Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
― Rob Siltanen
“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
“Things change. And friends leave. Life doesn't stop for anybody.”
― Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower
“Grief does not change you, Hazel. It reveals you.”
― John Green, The Fault in Our Stars
“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.”
― Terry Pratchett, A Hat Full of Sky
“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.”
― Albert Einstein
“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.”
― Lao Tzu
“The only way that we can live, is if we grow. The only way that we can grow is if we change. The only way that we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we can become exposed is if we throw ourselves out into the open. Do it. Throw yourself.”
― C. JoyBell C.
“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.”
― Eric Roth, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Screenplay
“You can't stop the future
You can't rewind the past
The only way to learn the secret
...is to press play.”
― Jay Asher, Thirteen Reasons Why
