assuming debian gnu/linux and python3 is installed:

mkdir ~/.venvs
python3 -m venv ~/.venvs/discord (called 'discord' here, can be whatever)
source ~/.venvs/discord/bin/activate
pip install discord.py
pip freeze > requirements.txt (optional)
export DISCORD_TOKEN=YOUR_DISCORD_TOKEN
python3 bot.py
