CUPS 3.0 Roadmap

This page documents the plans for a future OpenPrinting CUPS 3.0 feature release. The following high level changes are currently under consideration:

• Removal of Deprecated Features
• libcups Changes
• cupsd Changes

Removal of Deprecated Features/API

• cups-config script (replaced by pkg-config in 2.4.0)
• Printer drivers and raw queues (replaced by Printer Applications)
• PPD API functions
• Kerberos support

libcups Changes

• Investigate using OpenSSL in addition to/instead of GNU TLS
• Better support for X.509 certificates with snaps?

cupsd Changes

• Rewrite/update for use as the local (per-user) spooler
• All IPP job processing
