Theme featured projects

The featured projects block on the front page looks a little weird.

• increase gap
• use square thumbnails for project images
• if there is no image, show type tray icon instead
• title beneath image
• 4 columns
• use featured essays as an example: https://disaster-sts-network.org/

@MegaKeegMan ok, Can you point me to where this shows up? I see the block on the front page which takes an image with link. And it looks like the version we talked about, ie:

The featured essay is different (full width with text on the side, title at top).
