Our style guide is based on CMoS with a small number of additions/modifications. We should make this public & share it with authors so they can format their articles after acceptance and prior to copy editing.

  • Add policy for links/URLs in citations (links only for digital materials? For all materials accessed online? Or all materials accessible online / with a DOI?)

additions + elements of the CMoS to emphasize/highlight:

  • Avoid ambiguous deixis (I think there's a better term for this I can't remember!). [Add examples]
  • Avoid excessive nominalization / cut unnecessary prepositions. For example, "our efforts toward maximization of profits failed might be edited down to our efforts to maximize profits failed."
  • "it is clear that they" -> "they clearly" (in fact, "they clearly" -> "they")
  • "in order to" -> "to"
