I knew I should probably have bought Sekiro during the Steam Summer Sale. Anyway, I am not entirely convinced this is a thing. The closest test I have to work with is Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition.

Based on comments made about Sekiro during its original release, that game seems to suffer from the same type of controller problems when Exclusive access is not working as Dark Souls. Both games probably use similar routines for handling game controller support. Dark Souls works fine when HidHide is working. The game is unplayable when Exclusive access is not working.

Although the HidHide Configuration Client should probably state it somewhere, changing the Device Hiding status in the client only takes affect after disconnecting and re-connecting the HID device. It is due to the way that the device filter works as the status is checked on the initial device connection.

That's some good info about HidHide. I'm also pretty sure my device was disconnected several times during my testing, as well, because for some reason D4W disconnects my controller now when I switch on Ex-Mode. I do know that HidHide is at least working correctly, though. For the first two games, it looks like they use Raw Input APIs, which HidHide doesn't block 100%, according to Nefarious. He mentioned for DS4 controllers, that Direct Input and HID-API should be blocked 100%, but I found that one of the games also uses Raw Input API, which may not be completely blocked.

I wouldn't worry too much about Sekiro at the moment. I mainly only picked it because I knew it had issues with D4W and it was a pain in the butt to setup correctly. I plan to go through my catalogue of games soon to test each of them with and without exclusive mode anyway, just so I can have a list for my own family if they're having a controller issue.... That's how I found out Breakwaters and Two Point weren't working... My wife had tried to play them and the controller just wasn't working the same on her machine.

I'll re-check Sekiro a bit better, and make sure HID Hide is 100% off or on before checking if Ex-Mode has any effect. Is there anything that I can provide that would be useful? Maybe I should find a copy of Dark Souls PTD and run the same test? I think one of my neighbors has a disc for it. I may be able to snag that for a few days. If it also breaks the same way as Sekiro, then maybe it's an issue with my own setup?

Other apps using the Raw Input API might be an issue. Opening the device from a possible USB interface rather than the HID interface could circumvent HidHide. I wouldn't think any games would do that but I guess my assumption was wrong. Luckily I have not encountered a game with such a problem.

It looks like the reason these particular games are using Raw Input API isn't because the programmers wanted it to, but because of a particular DLL they've added. They've included a DLL called Rewired that is used by the devs to map inputs in unity. This input mapper just happens to use Raw Input, as well as DInput and XInput... and probably more, because they support a lot of different controller types.

Rewired claims to be the only Unity plugin that supports native input on Insert long list of platforms and consoles that really doesn't matter.... I don't know how popular it is in the dev world, but maybe it's worth noting that unity games that use this dll might require ex-mode, in addition to hidhide.

They've got a pretty large list of games on their site that use rewired, so I might pick up a couple and test them as well, just to see if it's really rewired, or something else.... plus, some of the games look decent and I might enjoy them. XD

Can confirm, Rewired is not blocked by HidHide.

I grabbed one of the Kingdom games listed on their website and made a profile that has left stick unbound. With Ex-mode active, the character cannot move. But, with ex-mode turned off and HidHide active, the left stick suddenly controls the character.

With this info, I added all the games on their site to the list. Also added all games from my own library which have rewired DLLs. I've also tested several of my library of games that use Rewired, and can confirm any that have Rewired_Core.dll are grabbing the Raw Input.

Also, another thing to note is that Breakwaters does not use Rewired like I thought it did. It's getting Raw Input by some other means. More research is needed.

I own Broforce on Steam. I have double checked and hiding a DS4 using HidHide works fine for me.

With Ex-mode AND HidHide enabled, yes, it works fine. Try this setup for me:

1- Disable Ex-Mode
2- Enable Hidhide
3- Set AutoProfile to Test profile

Test profile is normal DS4 controller, but with left stick disabled (unbound)

If HidHide is working correctly, left stick should not work when using this profile in-game.

If HidHide ISN'T working, left stick will be picked up still. Then, try pressing R2. You will spawn a second character who can shoot with the normal buttons, but cannot move (IE, is using ds4windows' virtual controller)

Been testing with all the above except I was using an XInput output controller. I also tested Broforce while DS4Windows was not running as well so only the main DS4 input controller would be taken into account. I have been getting the same results: Broforce does not detect any input when the input DS4 is hidden with HidHide. When the input DS4 is not hidden by HidHide, the game will detect some button inputs but the built-in DPad mapping is wrong.

I checked a few other Unity games that I have in my collection but none of the others use Rewired; I did confirm that the version of Broforce that I have installed is using the Rewired plugin.

You ever do something and know in you're head that you're 100% right and when some one says something to the contrary, you think you've gone insane?

I just realized that you have to block your controller twice in HidHide...... Once for the USB connection, and again when you finally get one of those fancy BT dongles..... I had my BT connection unblocked this whole time! XD

Breakwaters and Sekiro were odd ones. Give me just a second to check them out.
update: Son of a gun.... I'm Stupid sometimes... Everything works just fine when it's set up correctly. (｡･_･｡)

HidHide works off Device Instance Paths so each HID device will be seen as a different device and must be individually blocked. The list in the current client app is not too helpful when it comes to distinguishing similar controllers. Sometimes I have to unblock many devices in the list just to make sure I unblock the proper device when testing.

With HidGuardian, there was the option to use a bit more specific Hardware ID or use a more generic one that would block similar devices by default. My old HidNinja app was mostly sufficient for the job but finding and unblocking specific devices from the list could have been easier.

Well, I HAD 6 devices hidden... I knew that the devices needed blocked over BT connection as well, but my wife took my controller, so I've been using a different one... which I guess wasn't blocked via BT connection. It was suddenly working this morning when I plugged in a different controller that WAS blocked. XD
