Move py_backend from xarray to numpy to accelerate the model integration. The interaction with the users should be keeped with xarray so they do not feel any change appart from improvements in speed.

Parts of the code are already commented with the keyword # NUMPY: with the possible numpy version of the code or some other ideas.
