Right now, we have Membership Status values that could mean multiple things:

Former
Current
Lapsed
Renewal
In the snowfakery recipe, I'm saying Lapsed is End Date to End +30 days. Former is outside of grace period. Renewal is last 30 days of membership. Current is first 11 months of membership.
