Add a template process function #135

A template process function that others can use to build from. It should have such things:

minimum set of steps or parts, with explanatory comments
compilation of optional steps or parts taken from the existing process functions, with explanatory comments
- to demonstrate other ways of doing things
doesn't have to work in itself (e.g., can have fake variables)
