I'd like to offer the idea to let you use campfires to pass the night. More details:
Right clicking a lit campfire, when not holding a shovel or an item that can be cooked on a campfire, lets you pass time like a bed does. The animation for this should be sitting on the ground facing the campfire, rather than laying down. During the animation, you can click buttons to "Set Spawn" or "Get up" (or hit escape). Finishing the animation during daytime sets the time to night, and vice versa.
Passing the night like this does not count as sleeping for resetting the insomnia timer for phantoms' spawning.
In the morning/evening after passing the night/day, the campfire would become unlit, just like if you respawned there.
If the campfire is unlit, the spawn point reverts to the last bed used. If that bed is missing or obstructed, you spawn at world spawn instead. Relighting the campfire allows you to spawn at it instead. Using a bed or another lit campfire resets the spawn point to that spot instead.
