In my implementation, an administrator could type an unknown email address into the collaborators field. In the current system, I cannot.

When an Adminstrator types in an unknown email address, the right thing to

  1. Allow unknown email addresses.
  2. Tell the Administrator that the email address is unknown
  3. Off the Administrator to send out an invitation.

I like this idea! Let's tackle this if/when we open up access to anyone.

I've tagged this as an enhancement for the polish (as in polish your shoes, not the polish language ;-) milestone.
