JournalMap

JournalMap at https://journalmap.org/ is a webservice combining scientific articles and geographical information systems (GIS). It associates a scientific article with a geographical coordinate and displays that on a Leaflet-powered zoomable map. As of March 2018 they claim to have over 30,000 articles. Data is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA and there is a REST API.

Collections can display geocoordinates associated with sets of articles, see, e.g., "West Nile Virus" example at https://journalmap.org/journalmap/west-nile-virus.

In Scholia, somewhat similar displays are available with the "Co-occurring topics map" for the topic aspect, see, e.g., https://tools.wmflabs.org/scholia/topic/Q202864, or the "Locations as topics" panel in the country aspect, see, e.g., https://tools.wmflabs.org/scholia/country/Q924.
