Jumping into this and, while I'm game to make these updates for now, I think we need to more firmly separate between the Template Editor and Site Editor. Ideally, we list the two ways but then, for the Site Editor way, we just link off to the Site Editor doc rather than keeping two docs up to date. Noting that this work will also bleed into what needs to be updated here for the Site Editor cc @femkreations #674

Notes on what I did with a link to the Google doc since I couldn't find the option to schedule an update. All changes are listed as suggestions to quickly accept before I bring them into the main doc.

  • Removed references to beta
  • Adjusted the instructions in light of browse mode being added to the site editor for the "How to use the Template Editor via the Site Editor" section.
  • Updated the changelog
  • Recorded and uploaded new videos shown below.

To navigate to templates video:

Navigating.to.find.templates.video.mov

To edit a template video:

Editing.a.template.mov

To add a single template for all post types and specific post types video (shortened this as I think it's redundant):

Creating.a.category.video.mov

I'll lightly clip the beginning of these to make it a touch more refined.

In light of some lovely guidance from @bph I'm going to move forward with updating this doc directly today with the above changes.

Alright. This took longer than expected due to some really strange overwrite issues. In any case, updated and closing out: https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/template-editor/#how-to-use-the-template-editor-via-the-site-editor
