🟢 The original text is good.

Can I make my text fancy?

While working on a post or page, you can do basic text editing. Tap the icons located directly above the keyboard to add styling like bold, italics, alignment, and hyperlink.

Text and background colors can be set on a per-block basis. To find color settings, click on the cogwheel icon.

Error “Couldn’t Sync — Sorry, you cannot edit posts/pages on this site.”

The reason you would get this error is most likely because of one of two reasons:

  1. The account you have on the site doesn’t have sufficient privileges. Your user role needs to be Author, Editor, or Administrator to be able to manage content in the app. You can find more info about this for self-hosted sites (WordPress.org) here.
  2. You recently changed the URL associated with your blog in the app, moved your website to a new host without logging out of the WordPress App, or other similar issues with connectivity directly to your site. In this case, try logging out of the WordPress App, and back in using new credentials.

How can I create a page?

Pages are static. That means that the information displayed on a page doesn’t change, or doesn’t change often. A great example of a page would be the ‘About’ or ‘Contact Us’ section of a website.

To view your site’s pages, tap on Site Pages. On this screen, you will see four tabs:

  • Published: pages that are visible on your site.
  • Drafts: pages you’re still working on that haven’t been published yet.
  • Scheduled: pages you have set to be published at a future time. Here’s how.
  • Trashed: pages you have deleted. They can be restored from the trash for 30 days. After that, they are permanently deleted.
Here’s how to create a pages on both Android and iOS devices. You have two options:

You can either select the “Pages” tab in the Dashboard and then the black and white “+” icon in the bottom right corner.

Or you can tap the black "+" icon directly from your dashboard and choose to add a "Site Page."

If you choose to tap the black icon from the dashboard you have then the option to select if you want to add a new Blog post or a Site page

How can I create a post?

So what’s a post? Posts are what make your blog a blog — they’re servings of content that are listed in reverse chronological order on your blog’s front page.

Create a post using your mobile device, and let us know who you are and what you think the pros and cons of mobile blogging are.

If you are stuck on what to write, feel free to consider these questions:

  • Why are you drawn to mobile blogging?
  • Is this a new experience for you?
  • What do you hope to learn from it?

Here’s how to create a post on both Android and iOS devices. You have two options:

You can either select the “Blog Posts” tab in the Dashboard or tap the black-and-white “Create New” icon in the lower right-hand corner.

You can also tap the "Create New" icon directly from your dashboard. If you tap the "Create New" icon from the dashboard, you can select whether to add a new Blog post or Site page.

How to add a block?

Blocks are the components for adding content in the WordPress block editor. There are many different block types available for you to use.

When you create a new post or page a paragraph block is automatically added right below the page or post title. So to start writing you can tap below the title and start typing.

If you would like to add a different block, like an image or a heading, for example, you can tap on the plus sign at the bottom of your screen.

You will then be presented with the list of blocks in the mobile apps. Please note not all blocks available in the block editor when you use a browser are accessible in the app, but we are always working to add more features to the app. Review the list of Blocks available in the App. (add url)

Reusable Block

You can insert reusable blocks that you have created in the web version of your site. Reusable blocks let you save a block or group of blocks to use later in any post or page on your site.

Creating and editing reusable blocks is not yet supported on the WordPress app. To learn more about how to create a reusable block in the web version of your site, visit our detailed instructions on reusable blocks.

To add a reusable block that you have already created, click on the + Inserter icon at the bottom-left corner of the screen and select the Reusable tab.

Click the block to add it to the post or page.

After inserting a reusable block, you can make changes to the block on that page or post only. To do this, click the ellipsis (three-dots) button for that icon and select Convert to regular blocks.

⚠️ Please note the following limitations:

  1. At this time, the reusable block is only available on WordPress.com sites.
  2. If you open a post/page while the app is offline, you will not be able to insert or view reusable blocks. When the app goes back online, the reusable blocks will be refreshed and will be available.

How do I add tags and categories?

on Android

To add categories and tags in the Android app, tap the ellipse menu ( ) on the upper right then tap on Post settings.

Then Tap either on the Categories or the Tags tab.

When you select Categories, tap on the + (plus) sign at the top right corner to add a new category or select a previously added one from the list.

When you select Tags, add new tags by typing the text for your tag, then hitting the back arrow in the top left to return to the previous screen.

If the tag has already been created for a previous post or page, the Tags list will begin to auto-populate with matching tags.

On iOS

In the iOS app, tap the three dots on the upper right-hand, then tap Post Settings.

Then tap either on the Categories or the Tags tab.

When you select Categories, tap on the + (plus) sign at the top right-hand corner to add a new category or select a previously added one from the list.

When you select Tags, add new tags by typing the text for your tag, then hitting the back arrow in the top left to return to the previous screen.

If the tag has already been created for a previous post or page, the Tags list will begin to auto-populate with matching tags.

Pro tip – Make sure the total of your tags + categories does not exceed 15. Sometimes having more than 15 categories plus tags combined causes conflict and will prevent a post from showing.

Example:

7 categories and 3 tags (total 10) is fine.
7 tags and 3 categories (total 10) is fine.
8 of one and 8 of another (total 16) is NOT fine.
