The Learn Team is developing short video tutorials suitable for TikTok/Reels.

Currently, this is a trial project and the Learn team is in the process of creating three example videos. However, we do not need to be limited to three, even for the pilot period. The more content we create, the better.

Marketing can assist Learn in creating these tiny tutorials:

  • Identify topics that work as short-form content
  • Create or edit scripts for voice/captions
  • Provide feedback on existing examples
  • Create short-form content to be used in the campaign (adhering to WP.org style guidelines)
  • Find examples of existing short-form tutorial content on TikTok, Instagram, or other social media that could serve as inspiration

You can manage any work on this ticket and ask questions directly on the Learn thread, or on this thread. Feedback on existing examples should be given directly on the Learn thread.

This ticket is specific to tutorials, which is in Learn's domain. For non-tutorial short-form content, please see this ticket: #114

@sereedmedia I'm throwing in some tips that might be helpful.

Tips for being succesfull on TikTok

Being successful on TikTok or any social media platform involves a combination of creativity, strategy, consistency, and a bit of luck. Here are some general tips:

  1. Understand Your Audience: Know who your content is intended for and what they enjoy. This will guide your content creation process.

  2. Create High-Quality and Engaging Content: Invest in good lighting and sound, keep your videos short and sweet, and make sure the content is entertaining, informative, or both.

  3. Use Relevant Hashtags: Hashtags are a crucial part of TikTok's algorithm. Use popular and relevant hashtags to increase your content visibility.

  4. Post Consistently: The more frequently you post, the better chance you have of getting noticed. Try to post at least once a day.

  5. Engage With Your Followers: Respond to comments on your videos, and try to create a community around your content. The more you engage with your audience, the more they'll engage with your content.

  6. Participate in Trends: Participating in trending songs, dances, challenges, or other meme formats can give you a chance to be seen by more people. But remember to add your unique spin on it to stand out from the crowd.

  7. Leverage the "For You" Page: The "For You" page is where TikTok delivers content it thinks a user will enjoy, based on past interactions. Create content that caters to popular trends and themes to increase the chances of being featured on others' "For You" pages.

  8. Be Authentic: Authenticity is crucial on TikTok. Users value real, relatable content. Be yourself and let your personality shine.

  9. Collaborate with Others: Collaboration can be a powerful way to reach a wider audience. You can do duets, challenges, or shout-outs with other TikTokers.

  10. Analyze and Learn: Use TikTok analytics to understand which of your videos are performing well and why. This can help you refine your content strategy and improve engagement.

Remember, "success" can mean different things to different people. Some might measure success by the number of followers they have, while others might measure it by the quality of the interactions they have with their audience. Set your own definition of success and strive towards it.

Ideas for WordPress TikTok-ing clips

  1. WordPress Basics: Showcasing simple, quick tasks that users perform often can work well in short-form videos.

    • "Configuring WordPress settings in 20 seconds"
    • "Installing your favorite WordPress plugin in just 15 seconds"
    • "How to choose and activate a WordPress widget in 25 seconds"
    • "How to use the WordPress block editor efficiently in 20 seconds"
  2. Simple Tips and Tricks: Small tips that can enhance the user experience can make engaging short content.

    • "Optimize your WordPress site for mobile in 20 seconds"
    • "How to improve page loading speed with this simple WordPress trick"
    • "Reduce bounce rate with this 15-second WordPress tip"
    • "Make your WordPress site user-friendly with this 20-second guide"
  3. "Did You Know?" Type of Content: Quick tips about lesser-known WordPress features can be both enlightening and engaging.

    • "A hidden shortcut to streamline your WordPress workflow in 15 seconds"
    • "Did you know you can schedule posts on WordPress? Here's how in 20 seconds"
    • "Unlock this secret WordPress feature in just 15 seconds"
    • "A surprising WordPress trick you didn't know in 20 seconds"
  4. Short Case Studies or Success Stories: A quick before-and-after or a success story can be quite impactful.

    • "See how this eCommerce site boosted sales with WordPress in 25 seconds"
    • "In 20 seconds, discover how a WordPress plugin saved this site from hackers"
    • "From a blog to a business: a 25-second WordPress success story"
    • "A WordPress theme makeover success in just 20 seconds"
  5. WordPress Updates and New Features: Keeping users updated with the latest features or enhancements can make for useful content.

    • "A quick 15-second tour of the latest WordPress dashboard update"
    • "In 20 seconds, see what's new in the latest WordPress Gutenberg update"
    • "Experience the power of the new WordPress plugin in just 25 seconds"
    • "Discover how the latest WordPress update makes editing easier in 20 seconds"

The key is to communicate one single, valuable point as quickly and engagingly as possible. In a 10 to 25-second video, every moment counts, so start strong, maintain a fast pace, and make sure to end with a clear takeaway or call to action for your viewers.

Minor tweak to the title as it is the Training team that leads for Learn WP, and there is not a Learn team 😄 .

I am collaborating on updating presentation materials on Learn WP. Are there any of these video reels ready please as they may be able to be used in the presentation next week? Thanks @sereedmedia and @courtneyr-dev

Maybe we can keep this issue open for WC Asia, but if there is no activity during that Contributor Day, we should consider closing this or moving it to a discussion

This issue is now moot because the Automattic contributors with social media access are not moving forward with an official WordPress TikTok or short form videos on YouTube.
