I think it's just a misreading/misunderstanding. UP DN LT RT are just abbreviations for the directions.
The shoulder buttons on the SNES controller are just called L and R.

ha! I'd read LT and RT as left trigger and right trigger.
can this be closed?
I guess its consistent with how SNES controllers are labelled, so probably.
