For the (unknown) artists, many have TMS constituent records that lack key pieces of information such as life dates, place of birth, place of death, nationality, but the records do include a constituent name. When you click on the mapping, some are listed under the alternate name, or with no name, just life dates. Ex. Richard Crosse is listed without a name, just life dates. Most of the (Unknown) artists in this sample are not creators of works in SAAMs permanent collection. They are donor constituents (Ex. Linda Kaplan), provenance constituents (Ex. National Museum of American History), artists of deaccessioned works (Ex. Jack Cowan and Richard Crosse), etc. All of these seems easy to fix, there are three codes applied to constituents who are creators of works in the permanent collection (verified, candidate, and provisional).
Each of the constituents in the file WebConstituents_person_view seem to have the code 'verified', 'candidate' or 'provisional'. All these constituents are mapped.
Constituents like 1019 have been provided in the WebConAltNames file, but not in the WebConstituents_person_view file. There is no way of knowing across datafiles which of them are creators and which are not. If only creators have to be mapped, the additional constituents and their data have to be removed from all files.
