Relational views were implemented in Arches before the availability of the node alias. Because of this, relational views still use a slugified node name for postgres column names. While the two tend to be very similar, ambiguity can arise if two nodes in a graph share the same name which can cause problems for ETL. The node alias, however, must be unique in a graph so relying on the node alias rather than slugified node names would address this issue.
