Currently we use LND for both on-chain & lightning network wallets, this however forces LPs to run LND (and in turn also a bitcoin full-node), even though they just want to support on-chain swaps.
This will also allow us to easily add more lightning network & on-chain wallet implementations, i.e. liquidity providers can directly use custodial accounts & complex external signer networks.

Why do we need this?
