I'm looking into this now, and it's going to be a bear, but I'm making some progress. I'll likely have to write something from scratch and rebuild important features.

(TLDR: _nextversion is my master branch, I did my changes on a per-branch so you can also almost cherry pick them)

I used your base code (yes), did some minor changes refactorings (to reuse code), added some features, fixed some issues.

(I will comment issues in your git with a link to my fix if there is one)

I'm trying to split your source into multiple files right now.

I didn't do PR yet because I wanted to split files before. (Don't ask, I failed at prioritized my stuff)
