Add resources for auto-deleting old social media content #108
Comments
I’m not sure if deleting old content helps anything, if a government agency wants it I’m sure they can get it and if a judge wants it they can get it. It only stops Aunty Jane from looking at an old photo. |
There's no reason to be defeatist about this; it's a good idea if such tools and services exist and it should be on the visitors of the site to determine if it would "help" them or not. |
That's a bit reductionist in my opinion. It's about deleting data that an average person might try to dig up to harm you in the future. Future job applications or public appearances might trigger people to dig up dirt. Having no dirt there is a good thing. Overall, most of the resources in this checklist have some backdoor, usually through state governments. What we're really trying to address here is baseline security and privacy on the web, not protecting secrets from the state :) |
Old social media content can be weaponized against people to harass them. Having these resources available isn't necessarily a security-focused category, but it is a privacy-related category if someone is interested in erasing more of their digital footprint. |
