Have you considered adding FPlay to F-Droid?

https://f-droid.org/

A repository of opensource android apps.

Cheers

Well, Edd, actually, I tried adding it to F-Droid in October...

But apparently I must have messed up with something, or I got it all wrong...

By what I could figure out, I though all I had to do was to create a new post under "Submission Queue". I created it (as you can see here https://f-droid.org/forums/topic/fplay/ ) but nothing has happened so far.

Do you know which is the proper way of adding an app to F-Droid? I would appreciate any kind of help ;)

If you bump that thread, I think it will be adopted. There work done on importing apps from forums recently.

Sorry, I don't know how to submit apps to f-droid. I just consume software for android :P

Hi @dalb8 !

Well, I have just submitted a new post (https://f-droid.org/forums/topic/fplay-1-04/ )....

I hope now FPlay is added to the list ;)

You can submit a request via git with this sort of thing but you should expect to submit new builds from time to time:

Build:1.02,37
    commit=cc100e8df045385b8e16d324ed
    prebuild=mv jni/ApplicationOthers.mk jni/Application.mk && \
       mv jni/AndroidOthers.mk jni/Android.mk
    buildjni=yes

Did you manage to get anywhere with this? I would love to see fplay on fdroid.

Sorry, I haven't moved any further... The idea is awesome and worthy, but at the time, it felt too complicated... All tutorials I found led no where :/

As there seems to be trouble at that end, maybe you could meanwhile attach the .apk files to the releases/ here at Github? I could then automatically pick them up and add them to my repo, which can easily be used with the FDroid app.

@IzzySoft Indeed it has been taking quite a while. I tried in many ways, but they have never replied.

The point is since I started trying to add FPlay to F-Droid, one thing has changed: I managed to add SHOUTcast support to FPlay, by becoming their partner. Even though this is a free process that anyone can do (just fill out the form at http://www.shoutcast.com/Partners), they asked me to keep my DevID private (as much as possible).

I'm well aware there isn't such thing as "true safety" nowadays, and anyone could extract my DevID from the APK with little/medium effort. What worries me is that if I publicly release the APK, they could misunderstand my action, and revoke my DevID.

That's why I stopped trying to add FPlay to F-Droid. Did you understand my situation? I don't think there is a solution for that....

@carlosrafaelgn I fully understand your concerns (and respect it if you want your .apk to "stay out" of my repo (and Github) because of that).

However, you could ask ShoutCast if it would be acceptable to them, and make your decision based on their reply (as you wrote, and I may make it a little more precise: Those who could extract your DevID from the .apk know their ways to get hold of the .apk anyway – there are tons of apps to extract .apk files from devices, rooted or not). If they say "No", bad luck. But it's worth a try, don't you think? Hard to believe they'd count publishing the compiled .apk a violation given this reasoning – especially as you protect things using ProGuard.

Any news on this?

Sorry, nothing so far. I'm a little bit short on time... And I confess I have neglected this issue for quite sometime now :(

No bad feelings, I know about "short of time" (happens to me often enough, and some things also wait for months here). I might ping you again in a few months then, unless you're faster 😸 Thanks for the life sign!
