Is there any way to make small donations? I'm not sure how much work it it, but maybe setup GitHub Sponsors? Afaik they don't even take any fees for donations from personal accounts.

Thanks for the offer and the hint for GitHub Sponsors! I think you are right in that they don't take fees for personal donations. There is, however, some tax-related paperwork. I think it's probably not worth the effort at the time, but I'll keep it in mind!

For what it's worth, in the past for my more popular projects I didn't want to accept financials either, so instead I just asked people to donate to a charity I liked (UNHCR) and included a link & instructions in the README. Annoyingly, there was no way to get notifications that people donated because of the project, but it was still nice to think that maybe I was helping get more money into a charity that was helping people.
