Indexed operator vs standard functions

Kite currently uses [] (the get()operator function) as access points. That is a pretty non-standard syntax, but it looks modern, explicit and precise. It is java compatible.

Kite.color[R.color.grue]  ⟺  Kite.color.get(R.color.grue)

Should kite be changing this syntax in favor of a more standard one, or support both classic functions and indexed operator access?
