Step to reproduce

  1. Install https://beta.cliqz.com as default search engine
  2. Enter "test" as keyword in the url bar

Expected result

The first suggestion in the dropdown list must be "Test — Search with cliqz" and, if chosen, should lead to this page: https://beta.cliqz.com/search?q=test

Current result

Only results suggestion are shown:

cliqz-cliqz

The problem only occurs with cliqz as default search engine. If I switch back to duckduckgo (for exemple), the first line is back, allowing me to search on duckduckgo:

cliqz-duck

Config

  • Cliqz browser 1.32.0 on archlinux
  • Cliqz addons 1.42.0.74

(it's not very urgent… beta.cliqz.com is not known to be ready yet :) I must be the only one testing this kind of integration xD)

I also got it after upgrading to the latest .deb build (with Clang 9).

On Arch, I had a similar issue (or the same?) after upgrading to the version that I build from source. First, it forgot the Cliqz search default. When I added it back (removed Cliqz in preferences and readded it as default), it became the default for the right-click "Search Cliqz for" action. However, the dropdown search stayed at DuckDuckGo and I could not change to Cliqz.

I don't know if it is related or not. My behavior was slightly different:

  • after upgrade my previous choice was remembered
  • right click "search with" was using the right search engine (and was still there)
  • only the awesome bar "shortcut" disapears if default search engine is cliqz no matter if it's just after upgrade or after some other restart

I think after upgrading, the existing Cliqz search entry that has been manually added (in both our setups) clashed with the Cliqz search entry shipped by the browser now.

@milouse As a workaround, you can recover from the inconsistent state via "preferences" -> "search" -> "Restore default search engines". That worked for me. I also removed the duplicated Cliqz entry (the one at the end, which is not mapped to the keyword "cl").

In my current build (with french locale from firefox) I don't have cliqz in the search engine list after having restored default search engines :/

I'll try with an english and german build later today to see if it's related to my locale.

I can confirm that my behavior is due to my french-localized version of cliqz: I just run the default (english) cliqz and I've the same behavior than you @philipp-classen. You should then focus on your behavior than mine.

@milouse Thanks for checking!
