Compiling bazel on MacOS with Bazel

I am compiling the cockroach code on MacOS Monterey based on this wiki https://cockroachlabs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CRDB/pages/2221703221/Developing+with+Bazel with bazel and getting following errors when I run

bazel build pkg/cmd/cockroach-short

Hi @tahirali-csc,

We've seen that macOS can upgrade things (specifically your XCode installation) under your feet in a way that confuses Bazel. Here are some instructions a team member put together to address this problem -- try it out and let me know if it doesn't seem to help.

1. sudo xcodebuild -license
2. Software Update > [Ensure your OS/XCode/CLI tools is up to date]
3. xcodebuild -runFirstLaunch
4. bazel clean --expunge
5. [If using dev] dev cache --reset
