The late game gets severely hamstrung by gold currently, meaning you can't upgrade your mines because you lack storage, and you can't upgrade storage because you don't have remotely enough gold (and must wait forever for it to come in). This resource exchange feature can potentially unblock that totally by allowing you to sell resources for gold.

There's now a trading mechanic but it only gets you gold, nothing else. Leaving this open for some kind of barter or resource conversion system.
