Background

Last summer, we removed the SQLAlchemy dialect from the fundamental DB API driver package. The next release of the crate package, version 1.0.0, will conclude the transition. Afterwards, it will be fine to just pull in the new sqlalchemy-cratedb package.

A few more chore updates have been staged to properly prepare the upcoming 1.0.0 release.

• Testing: Refactor software tests into dedicated directory tests crate/crate-python#659
• QA and CI: Format code using ruff. Validate using ruff and mypy. crate/crate-python#660
• Sandbox: Optionally use uv package manager to save cycles crate/crate-python#661
• CI: Use CrateDB nightly for PRs on Linux, lock version only on macOS crate/crate-python#662
• Error handling: Use ValueError exceptions instead of assert crate/crate-python#663
• Dependencies: Remove version pinning of urllib3 and verlib2 crate/crate-python#664
• Python: Migrate to use "implicit namespace packages" (PEP 420) crate/crate-python#666
• Timestamp values: Remove the use of "naive" Python datetime objects crate/crate-python#667
