User Level Detection or Is Organization Member - Through Javascript?

I am wishing to control the visible Organization button via JS code on page load / ajax. However I want to be sure that at least the first organization can be created as all users will be a member of it. To do this I would need to be able to detect either if this user is an organization member OR what user level this was. I understand if neither of these are available and so it goes.... but if it is, please pass it along.
