Code of Conduct

Our Pledge

We want to build a community where everyone feels welcome to learn about and discuss science. We promise to respect all participants regardless of their age, body size, disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, experience level, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

Our Standards

Good Behavior Looks Like

We encourage behavior that makes our community better:

  • Using friendly and welcoming language
  • Respecting different viewpoints and experiences
  • Accepting helpful criticism gracefully
  • Focusing on what's best for the community
  • Showing kindness and empathy to others
  • Helping others learn and understand science
  • Admitting when we make mistakes and learning from them
  • Focusing on scientific evidence and facts
  • Being patient with those who are learning

Unacceptable Behavior Includes

These actions hurt our community and won't be allowed:

  • Using sexualized language or imagery
  • Trolling, making insulting comments, and personal or political attacks
  • Harassing others in public or private
  • Sharing private information without permission
  • Acting unprofessionally
  • Making unwelcome sexual attention or advances
  • Using the project to spread misinformation
  • Deliberately misrepresenting scientific studies
  • Other conduct that would be inappropriate in a professional setting

Our Responsibilities

Project maintainers will:

  • Make our standards of behavior clear
  • Take fair action when someone does something harmful
  • Remove, edit, or reject comments, code, issues, and other contributions that don't follow this Code of Conduct
  • Ban temporarily or permanently anyone who behaves inappropriately

Where This Applies

This Code of Conduct applies:

  • When you represent the project or community
  • In all project spaces, online or in person
  • When using official project social media
  • When representing the project at public events
  • In direct messages related to project work

Enforcement

We will respond to abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior. We will:

  1. Give a private warning first
  2. Take public action if behavior continues
  3. Temporary ban if behavior persists
  4. Permanent ban for repeated violations

Project maintainers who don't follow the Code of Conduct may face temporary or permanent consequences.

Reporting

Report problems by:

  1. Emailing [email protected]
  2. Messaging a maintainer on AwesomeWebStore.com's chat
  3. Opening a private issue on GitHub

We will:

  • Protect the privacy of the reporter
  • Investigate all complaints
  • Take appropriate action
  • Respond as quickly as we can
